Contemporary issues, education, integration: the secular and spiritual , gender,
Israel, and Jewish thought.
To qualify for the 50% AJE discount you will have to apply direct to us

Following requests from a number of schools and individuals we are
intending to revise the timetable for the St John's Ambulance Lifesaver Plus
First Aid Course. Originally scheduled for the Spring term 1998 this course is
now planned to run for ten evening sessions during the Summer term starting
immediately after Pesach.
Places are limited and we know of a considerable amount of interest from
schools, part-time centres and nurseries who would like their staff to become
fully qualified first aiders. Once again, to confirm your existing place or
book a new place please contact Melanie Weinstein by email
aje@brijnet.org or phone 0181 343 6288.
We are delighted to give you advance warning of this important conference
designed for all Jewish parents. The half day programme will be held on Sunday
15th November 1998 and will feature tracks specifically for parents of very
young children, primary school age children and parents of teenagers. The
Agency for Jewish Education is working in partnership with Norwood/Ravenswood to
ensure an excellent range of speakers, well able to discuss a wide range of
important topics. We are delighted that he Chief Rabbi Dr Jonathan Sacks has
agreed to give the keynote address, thus ensuring the important place that we
all give to effective Jewish Parenting. More details will be issued shortly.
Highly successful meetings have recently been held with teachers from a
number of day schools in London in order to plan the National Year of Jewish
Reading which will start in September 1998, running in parallel with the
Government campaign to encourage and promote reading. We have also received
encouragement from a number of other organisations including the Jewish Book
Council and will be meeting colleagues in the part-time system, pre schools and
school staff in the North of England shortly after the beginning of the Spring
term.
So far the ideas have been flowing thick and fast and it is almost a case
of trying to concentrate the enthusiasm for the project into a practical number
of national projects.
The National Year of Jewish Reading will be a truly community wide activity
involving children, parents, grandparents, community leaders, rabbis, teachers
and those involved in youth work. It could make a real difference to your
school or part-time centre and we look forward to giving you more information as
it becomes available.
Following hard on the heels of Melanie Weinstein we are delighted to
welcome Nicole Hackenbroch who has joined the Agency staff mainly supporting
Melanie Shutz in the Informal Education Department. Nicole has previously
worked for the Jewish Marriage Council and has had extensive hadracha training.
Those people who have previously contacted Eva Abdoo for Jewish Youth Study
Group and Summer Schemes work will now hear Nicole at the other end of the
phone. Her direct dial number is 0181 343 6296 or e-mail
