The Zoo
After the closure of the Biblical Zoo in Romema, Jerusalem now boasts a modern, environmentally-sensitive zoo situated near the shopping centre at Malha in south-west Jerusalem. It was opened in 1992 and funded by the Tisch family in conjunction with the Jerusalem Foundation, the Jerusalem Municipality and the Jerusalem Development Authority.
The zoo is set in spacious surroundings in the hills of Jerusalem. The animals are kept in open spaces in their natural surroundings.
Reptiles are kept in a specially darkened hall, and aviaries have been built in which the birds can fly freely. There is a special children's section and a creative play centre.
