This opulent hotel, built in 1930, has retained an old-world ambience and often hosts important guests of the Israel Government.
The southern wing of the hotel was blown up in July 1946 by the Irgun (anti-British underground). The British did not pay any attention to warnings to evacuate the building and many British officialsas well as Jews and Arabs were killed in the explosion.
Because of its place in the development of modern Israel, it is a tourist attraction in its own right.
