Hechal Shlomo

Hechal Shlomo is the seat of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel and the supreme religious centre.

It was built 'to the glory of God and his holy Torah' with a donation from Sir Isaac Wolfson of Great Britain and is named in memory of his father. It houses a library and a museum of Jewish liturgical art, objects of folklore and documents of historical value.

The synagogue contains a magnificent 18th century Aron Kodesh which was originally built for a synagogue in Padua, Italy.
