Who we are
& what we do

The Agency for Jewish Education, which began operating in January 1995, provides a wide range of services to Jewish communities at home and throughout the world.

Specific Services

The increasing number of day schools in Britain means that there is a greater demand than ever before for:
  • high quality initial teacher training
  • in-service training
  • advice and inspection
  • curriculum and resource development
  • publications

  • Teacher Training

The Agency provides accredited training programmes for both primary and pre-school staff and works in conjunction with the Institute of Education, London University in the training of Jewish Studies teachers.

We will shortly be embarking on a wide range of in-service training courses throughout the coming year designed for teachers in both the day school and the supplementary systems.

    Curriculum and Resource Development

We provide both the curriculum and related assessment programmes for both the United Synagogue supplementary centres and a number of independent supplementary centres throughout the country.

The Agency pioneered the world famous 'Lamdeni' reading series which combines colourful books, audio tapes, video tapes and practical activities.

    Inspection and Advice

The Agency is fortunate in having Government accredited inspectors trained to inspect both Jewish and secular studies in the day school system.

Inspectors are also active in the supplementary system where, in addition to assessing the quality of learning and teaching in each centre, advice and support is given to both teachers and local lay leaders.

    Publications

The Agency is a major producer of publications and resources with well over 100 titles in it's current publication catalogue.

    Informal Education

    JYSG
    Jewish Youth Study Groups

Through its Informal Department, the Agency runs a series of youth oriented programmes which include Shabbatonim, day schemes and year-long Israel-based youth leadership courses. This department is also the home for Jewish Youth Study Groups.
