Activity |
Early Years & Foundation Stage 0 - 5 |
The parashah tells us (8:10) that after you eat you must thank Hashem - Saying 'Thank You' |
Talk about who we thank and why.
- There are people we thank on a daily basis: our parents, teachers, friends
- There are people who do services for us
- We say Modeh Ani every morning to thank Hashem for a new day
How else do we say thank you to Hashem?(Brachot, Birkat Hamazon etc)
Is there something special that the children would like to thank Hashem for?
Tune: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
Thank Hashem for all the trees
For the flowers and for the bees.
Thank Him too for food we eat,
Fish and bread and milk and meat,
Thank Hashem for all these things
And giving us a voice to sing.

Key Stage 1 5 - 8 |
In Chapter 8, Verse 8, the 'Shivat Haminim' are listed. These are the seven kinds of produce with which Eretz Yisrael is especially blessed - Knowing the Seven Kinds (the Shivat Haminim) |
The following is a translation of Devarim 8:8.
'A land of wheat and barley, and vines and fig trees and pomegranates; a land of olive trees and honey'.
(Honey refers to date honey. The torah refers to dates as honey because of the sweetness of dates and honey. Eretz Yisrael is called a land flowing with milk and honey - honey of dates, not bees' honey.)
From Wheat to Eat
Ask the children if they are able to list the Shivat Haminim. If they can, get them to talk about how we use them today

Key Stage 2 8 - 11 |

Read the second paragraph of the Shema, sentence by sentence, each person in turn.
