Activity

Early Years &
Foundation Stage
0 - 5
The parashah tells all about the intricate skilled work that went into the making of the items for the Mishkan, the Sanctuary - We all have special skills and talents Ask the children what they are good at or with a helper each child could mime an activity that they are good at. The others in the group must guess what it is.

See Parashat Toledot for a song:

'Everyone can do something special'
Key Stage 1
5 - 8
Pekudei is the last parashah in the book of Shemot - Marking endings Activity One:
Print Resource Page 1, for the children to work in groups or individually. The idea is to match the 'event' with the 'ending'. The sheet could also be cut up and the pieces kept in envelopes (one sheet per person or group) so the children can put them in pairs. The children might not be familiar with some of the terms, so at the end of the activity have some time to discuss them.

Activity Two:
'Human Learning Aid'
Pekudei is the last Parashah in the Book of Shemot. Print flashcards of the names of each Parashah in Shemot (11) using Resource Pages 2 - 4 and distribute them. The children have to form themselves into a line, correctly showing the order of the Book of Shemot.
Key Stage 2
8 - 11
Moshe gave an accurate account of all the materials and money that had been collected to build the Mishkan - Care when dealing with public funds Activity One:
'Money Matters'

Set this task for the children to discuss:
'You are planning to raise money with your friends for poor children in Israel.'
Points for the Leader of the session to raise:
  1. Decide on the charity
  2. Sharing tasks
  3. Focus on these - outlay, accounts, security, receipts, evidence of the donation
The number of children in the session will define whether to do this activity in one, two or more groups.

Activity Two:
Use Activity Two from Key Stage 1 above, but also print the Parashot of Bereishit, which you will find in Parashat Vayechi, Key Stage 1 Activity, Resource pages 1 - 3. Have the children correctly show the order of Bereishit and Shemot.
