Early Years & Foundation Stage 0 - 5 |
Moshe again tells the Bnei Yisrael about not working on Shabbat - Shabbat is a special day |
Print the pictures on Picture Resource Pages (6pp).
Talk about why Shabbat is special and different. Look at the pictures, which show preparations for Shabbat and Friday night activities, then pass them around for the children to describe them.
To talk about:
When do these preparations start?
Why do they have to be done?
What other things, not in the pictures, are done to prepare for Shabbat?
Who does all these things?
How do the children help with any jobs?
What is their favourite part of Friday night?
After the discussion, decide on the sequence for the pictures and have six children standing in a line holding a picture in front of them.

Key Stage 1 5 - 8 |
We are told that people volunteered to do different jobs in the constructing the Mishkan. Some gave time, some gave goods and some gave special talents - Using our special talents for good |
Each of us is good at something. To focus the discussion give this example:
The group have been asked to raise money to buy Pesach food parcels for poor Jewish people in London. How would the members of the group use their special skills and talents to help raise the money?
|
Key Stage 2 8 - 11 |
The Parashah goes into great detail, in Chapter 35 Verses 20 -29, about how the whole community helped in many ways to build the Mishkan. Not everyone was a skilled worker like Bezalel, but people contributed in their own special way - The spirit of Community |
This activity is called 'Our Community'.
Arrange to invite a community volunteer e.g. chairman of Synagogue, head of security, head of care group, friendship club helpers, hospital visitors etc.
Print the sample list of questions on Resource Page . Cut these up and distribute appropriate ones to the group, for them to ask the visitor. Fill in the blanks to match details of your guest and add some more questions of your own.
